There are a few sites that rate various media on their political bias and one chart by patent attorney Vanessa Otero that went viral and caused a great deal of controversy.
Here is Otero’s chart:
As of November 10, 2018, it seems that the chart cannot be accessed directly from it original source. The version above was found via ResearchGate.
MarketWatch has an excellent article that details the history of the chart, the controversy around it, and responses to it.
Media Bias/Fact Check is an entire site that categorizes various media. It is less student-friendly than the chart above, but contains a great deal more detail and analysis. It even had two browser extensions:
- Facebook Media Bias Annotator- Annotates Facebook feeds. Using mediabiasfactcheck.com data, each news story is annotated with a brief graph showing the bias of the news source.
- Official Media Bias Fact Check Icon- Displays a color-coded icon denoting the bias of the page a user is currently viewing, according to Media Bias/Fact Check. The user can click the icon to read more notes about the site, or visit MBFC for more details. (also available for Firefox)
